Below is a really rare shot: a snowshoe hare. He (or she?) is scratching, molting from the winter white coat to the summer gray. Notice its footy-paws.
Elk are plentiful in the park in the open grassy areas. Here is a yearling with stubby nubbins where his antlers are coming in.

Of all the thousands of acres of wilderness in this park, guess where I saw the ONLY deer? Yep, right alongside the ROAD! What is it that makes deer hang around cars so much? Why can't they go out in the deep woods where they won't raise anyone's auto insurance rates? Sheesh... dumb deer.
Elk, elk, and more elk. I can't imagine shooting one of these things, even for meat, because then you'd have to haul the thing back to your car or pickup. These animals are much larger than deer and obviously weigh a lot more.
