Hummers

Last year, I was amazed that I actually got a photograph of a ruby-throated hummingbird. These itty-bitty tiny creature are only about an inch to two-inches long, and they flit so fast you can't even see them. You can hear them, however, especially near a sweet-smelling white flowering bush that grows up near the tree-line. They hardly ever rest, so it astounded me when, after standing still for about 10 minutes with the camera at the ready, I was able to actually see one light on a branch, and he sat still long enough for the auto-focus to do its thing, and I got this picture. This was on the Glacier Gorge trail coming back from Jewel Lake. Then, on Tuesday, I was descending a steep section of the Bierstadt Lake trail and heard more hummers, so I spent about half an hour waiting and watching, and behold, I got another shot at one! And then further down that same trail, I heard some more, so I waited another few minutes, and to my astonishment, I got a third photo, and this one was showing off his ruby throat. I'm really proud of these rare shots.
