Watch This Space...

I'm taking a lot of pictures in the Rocky Mountain National Park. So far, I've hiked the Bear Lake Trail, the trail to Nymph Lake, Dream Lake, and Emerald Lake -- all on Friday. High altitude, slow walking. Great weather, though. Saturday I spent the day in the hotel room working on business. I also went to Home Depot Saturday and purchased a shovel handle to use as a hiking stick so I could tackle some of the trails I haven't yet been on -- the trail reports say they are still covered in snow and ice some places. Sunday I hiked the Glacier Gorge, seeing Alberta Falls, Glacier Gorge, Mills Lake and Jewel Lake, hiking back to the Hiawaha junction, then taking the steep trail up to The Loch. Patches of snow and ice -- the walking stick came in handy. I hiked around the Loch, and took the trail up towards Andrews Glacier. I got as far as Timberline Falls... the trail just became too snowy and icy. Took me about three hours for the last mile up the snow and ice towards Timberline Falls. I'm not into trudging through waist-deep snow. I'll wait until some other time to go up there. Yesterday was spent on business, laundry, exploring the historic town of Greeley, and recuperating(after overdoing it a bit on the 10-hour trek on Sunday). I haven't had time to re-size the pictures, and I don't want to use up the Blogspot space with too many 3.6 megapixel photos when I can get by with some resized full-screen shots that take up just a few kilobytes. So watch this space, I'll be posting some photos soon. But not tomorrow. Tomorrow I'm trying some new trails (new to me): Twin Owls trail up to Gem Lake, or perhaps going to Cub Lake by starting out at Hollowell Park rather than the Cub Lake Trailhead. If I do Cub Lake, I plan to come back via the Moraine Park trail and use the shuttlebus to get back to the car. Some new terrain, and perhaps some more wildlife. And probably fewer people, too. We'll see. Watch this space.
